Ways of Learning: An Apprentice Boat Builder in Japan
Douglas Brooks has apprenticed with five different boat builders in Japan since 1996. In this slide talk he will share his experiences with traditional crafts drawn from a dozen trips to Japan since 1990. This presentation will include a lecture with slides and discussion of the history and current status of boat building and other traditional crafts in Japan, providing the audience with a glimpse into the ancient traditions of the apprentice training. A Vermont Humanities Council event.
